While it might not be the most conventional way to celebrate Mother’s Day, the Ontario government offering everyone the chance to fish for free this weekend.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry will be waiving the need for fishing licenses on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10.
“Fishing is a great way for families to make unforgettable memories while enjoying the outdoors,” said Mike Harris, Minister of Natural Resources in a news release. “Free fishing weekends are an opportunity to check out Ontario’s top‑notch fishing and take part in a timeless tradition that brings people together right across the province.”
This is one of four times throughout the year when Canadian residents can fish without a license, including the weekends of Family Day, Father’s Day, and during Family Fishing Week from June 28 to July 6.
During these times, all conservation license catch limits, size limits, sanctuaries and other regulations will still apply. Residents taking part in free fishing periods will also need to carry federal or provincial identification showing their name and date of birth.
