Dozens of young people from across Chatham-Kent have been recognized for giving back to their community.

The third annual Youth Community Recognition Awards were held at the Capitol Theatre on Thursday, honouring students nominated by their school principals for their outstanding commitment to community service in their school and local community.

“Chatham-Kent is a growing community. You are its future, and seeing what you are already accomplishing gives me a great deal of confidence and hope for the direction we’re headed,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff to the students in attendance. “I often talk about bringing more positivity into our community, and tonight is a perfect example of that positivity in action.”

In all, 46 students were honoured for their dedication and positive impact.

Each recipient was given an engraved award, a swag bag, and a $50 restaurant gift card, all provided by Mainstreet Credit Union.
