A special tribute for one of the pillars of Chatham-Kent’s Portuguese community.

Antonio do Forno, who passed away in October, 2025, has been named to the Portuguese Canadian Walk of Fame in the Builder category.

The first Portuguese Canadian from southwestern Ontario to receive the honour, do Forno co-founded the Portuguese Canadian Social Club of Chatham, serving as its first president. Among his many other accomplishments, do Forno also helped establish Portuguese language classes in Chatham, Leamington, Wheatley and other communities in southwestern Ontario.

The Portuguese Canadian Walk of Fame honours outstanding achievements that have served to inspire and instill pride in the Portuguese community, and recognizes the contributions of Portuguese people across Canada.

Inductees in the Star category this year included Tony Do Vale, Joaquina Pires, and Sonia Pereira.

An induction ceremony was held at Camoes Square in Toronto this past Saturday.
