Tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of illicit drugs have been taken off the streets.

Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service Intelligence Unit carried out a pair of search warrants at homes in Chatham on Tuesday as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.

Eight people were arrested at a McNaughton Avenue East home, ranging in age from 26 to 56. A second warrant at a home on Selkirk Street led to the arrest of three more people aged 26 to 42.

Officers turned up roughly 100 grams each of fentanyl and cocaine with a combined estimated street value of $30,000, along with cell phones, digital scales, packaging material, and a large amount of Canadian currency.

A 30-year-old Etobicoke man has since been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, and was held in custody for a bail hearing.

The 10 other individuals arrested have all been released.
