Chatham-Kent’s hospital is celebrating a significant milestone after recording a record number of births.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) said the Women and Children’s Program helped to deliver a record 931 babies during the most recent year. This is a significant increase from the 866 births recorded in the previous year and 781 births the year before.
The hospital saw the highest number of deliveries during September and October.
“It has been an incredibly rewarding year for our team, and we are honoured to serve our growing community,” said Jessica Johnston, Clinical Manager of the Women and Children’s Program, in a news release. “When a life is brought into this world, it is a privilege to aid in the comfort and experience of the whole family during their stay and journey at CKHA.”
CKHA officials said the high number of births coincides with several enhancements to the services and facilities within the Women and Children’s Program. This includes a dedicated breastfeeding room, a Panda Infant Warmer, and the reintroduction of tours for expecting parents to see the unit and meet members of the care team.
