While assaults increased in Chatham-Kent in 2025, police are reporting a reduction in the number of break-and-enters.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service has released its annual report, detailing yearly crime statistics in the municipality.
According to the report, aggravated assault incidents declined by 62 per cent from 26 in 2024 to 10 in 2025, while criminal harassment investigations jumped 82 per cent from 225 to 463.
There were no murders investigated in 2025, down from three the year prior. However, there were five attempted murders last year, compared to two in 2024.
Police also noted a decline in break-and-enters with an eight per cent drop year-over-year for residential break-ins, and a 43 per cent decrease in break-ins at local businesses.
Police also investigated twice as many reports of counterfeit money, from nine to 18 cases between 2024 and 2025. Arson cases also saw a significant 62 per cent increase from 37 deliberately set fires in 2024 to 60 in 2025.
Police officials said these trends reflect both investigative efforts and broader community patterns.
To better manage benchmark offences and support frontline investigations, CK police will be creating a dedicated Major Crime Team and an enhanced General Investigations Unit.
