New Ontario grant funding is helping to bring seniors together in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.
Five seniors’ organizations in the riding have received over $100,000 from the provincial government through Seniors Community Grants, which aim to help seniors stay fit, active, healthy and socially connected close to home and in their communities.
Each organization will use the funds for programming that provides seniors with opportunities for greater social inclusion, volunteerism and community engagement.
Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Steve Pinsonneault announced the recipients this week, along with their respective social programs:
- Wallaceburg Senior Citizens’ Club Inc. is receiving $24,772 for their project: Navigating Life’s Last Journey: Community Conversations on Planning, Loss, and Grief
- Sydenham Community Curling Club Inc. is receiving $24,996 for their Active Minds & Healthy Bodies: Senior Wellness Engagement Project at the Sydenham Community Curling Club.
- North Lambton Community Health Centre is receiving $13,171 for their Aging Well Together project.
- Strathroy-Caradoc-MPAS is receiving $25,000 for their Active Days project.
- Walpole Island First Nation is receiving $25,000 for their “G’minoomaadozimin” We Are Living Well Senior Inclusion Program.
“Our seniors have made lasting contributions to our communities, and they deserve opportunities to stay active, engaged, and connected,” said Pinsonneault in a news release. “Through the Seniors Community Grants Program, our government is investing in local organizations that provide meaningful programs, promote healthy aging, and social connection.”
The funding is part of $7 million in 320 Seniors Community Grants that are being invested across the province. Since 2018, Ontario has invested more than $40 million in over 2,100 Seniors Community Grants.
