PUC Approves $3M Watermain Rehabilitation In Ridgetown

Watermain restoration project in Ridgetown.

A multimillion-dollar watermain rehabilitation project is expected to begin this month along several streets in Ridgetown.

The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission has awarded a $2.952 million contract to Fer-Pal Construction Ltd 1 to rehabilitate or replace 1,700 metres of existing underground watermains on Church Street, Jane Street, Cecil Street South, Ebenezer Street East, and Broadway Street.

Another $128,933 contract has also been awarded to Dillon Consulting Limited for administration, inspection and engineering services.

The majority of the project’s cost will be funded through the PUC’s Watermain Lifecycle Reserve.

During a review of the water distribution network conducted in 2021, the watermains along the aforementioned streets were identified as pipelines in need of rehabilitation or replacement due to their age and material. The system has also experienced several watermain breaks and water quality issues over recent years.

The construction project is slated to begin this month, with completion expected by the end of this year.

Residents in the area affected by the construction will receive hand-delivered notifications regarding the work. Updates on the project will also be posted online on the CK Construction Project website.
