More than 2,000 charges have been laid on OPP-patrolled roads in the region following a traffic campaign over the Labour Day long weekend.
Ontario Provincial Police officers from West Region detachments conducted 2,330 traffic stops between September 4 and September 7 and laid 2,142 charges. This was an increase of 541 charges compared to the same time in 2025.
The traffic safety education and enforcement campaign targeted the “Big Four” bad driving behaviours — aggressive driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving, and impaired driving.
A total of 1,004 charges laid in the West Region were for speeding. Another 172 charges were laid for seat belt offences, 52 were for stunt driving, and 11 for distracted driving.
Officers with the Elgin detachment, which patrols Chatham-Kent, laid a total of 77 charges.
