A Wallaceburg man is facing impaired driving charges after allegedly trying to avoid a police checkpoint.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were conducting a RIDE program on North Street in Dresden shortly after midnight on Friday when they spotted a vehicle change direction to avoid the checkpoint.
The vehicle was stopped by police a short distance away, and the driver was arrested after he allegedly failed a roadside sobriety test. It was also learned the man had been suspended from driving.
As a result, a 39-year-old Wallaceburg man has been charged with driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit and driving while under suspension. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.
