Chatham-Kent has a new Municipal Clerk.
Council passed in the consent agenda the appointment of Chris Bantock as Chatham-Kent’s Municipal Clerk, effective November 1.
Earlier this year, Current Municipal Clerk Judy Shantz announced her retirement at the end of the current council term. Shantz is leaving the position after 36 years with the municipality and will be replaced by Bantock, who has worked as the municipality’s Manager of Privacy and Information since January 2024.
Councillor Marjorie Crew expressed her gratitude to the departing Municipal Clerk leading the group in a standing ovation.
“I’ve been here a long time with Judy and it’s been my pleasure and she’s always been professional, she’s always been helpful and just there whenever we need her,” said Crew.
“Guiding our meetings and keeping the mayor on track, which hasn’t been easy.”
Bantock moved into the role of Election Coordinator in May as part of the transition plan for Shantz’s replacement, as determined by staff back in January.
