The local public school board is planning for the future.

Trustees with the Lambton Kent District School Board have approved a new five-year strategic plan designed to guide schools in Chatham-Kent and Lambton County through 2031.

The roadmap focuses on three core priorities: learning, well-being, and trust, with an emphasis on creating an environment where every student feels a sense of belonging.

The strategy was developed following extensive community input, including dedicated consultations with local First Nations communities and equity-seeking groups.

“This plan was created with our communities, not simply for them,” said Director of Education Gary Girardi in a news release. “Our students, staff, families, First Nations partners, community organizations and members of the communities we serve were at the heart of this process. Their ideas, experiences and vision helped shape a plan that reflects who we are, what matters most to us and where we want to go together.”

School board officials say the plan will drive future funding decisions and daily operations, with a focus on core academics, mental health, and strong community communication.
