Police Assaulted During Arrest

Charges have been laid after a woman attempted to rob a man in a Chatham parking lot.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to the area of King Street West on Saturday just after 8 p.m. following an assault.

Authorities learned that a woman had approached a man outside of a restaurant and demanded that he hand over a purse he was holding. When the man attempted to walk away, the woman became more aggressive and attempted to kick the man before falling to the ground. The woman then got back up, striking the man in the face with a closed fist.

Police arrived and attempted to take the woman into custody, however, she tried to resist by flailing her arms and hit officers.

As a result, a 19-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with robbery, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. She was held in custody for a bail hearing.
