More than 60 seniors from across Chatham-Kent are being recognized for making their community a better place.

The group received awards at the 29th annual Chatham-Kent Senior’s Expo in Blenheim Friday.

Marion Matt is a long time Bothwell resident and this year’s Chatham-Kent senior of the year recipient. “It’s quite a surprise and is quite overwhelming, I’ve been with the boosters working on the downtown revitalization project over the last few years, and have been on the heritage committee for more than 40.”

Dixie Peters  lost her husband 22 years ago, and struggled with her grief. It was then she knew what she needed to do. “I lost Jim to Lou Gehrig’s, and six months later I had no idea what was wrong with me and a small ad in the Ridgetown paper led me to the bereavement program, says Peters.”I companion people that have lost loved ones, I have an office here in Blenheim, and I do groups in the Baptist Church.”

Peters received a provincial recognition for her work.
