The Chatham-Kent OPP is urging motorists to be extra careful on foggy mornings this time of year.

Constable Janine Belanger reminds us that 16 years ago today was the disaster on the 401 near Windsor that involved a massive 87 vehicle pile up and claimed 8 lives.

“Monday and Tuesday were quite foggy, and it posed some challenges to people driving in that,” says Belanger. “Back in 1999, there was that horrific crash on the 401 and the weather conditions were extremely foggy.”

This is prime time for foggy mornings so you’re urged to slow down, drive with your lights on and leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front of you.
