The Employee 1 Survey was sent out to employers in Chatham Kent just before the end of 2015 and the results are back, and they tell an interesting story. One of the things the survey showed is that it’s actually hard to hire someone for a position in Chatham Kent.
The survey also shows that a high school diploma is only acceptable for 25% of jobs. Most jobs that are
being offered in the region require college, university, trades or other professional training. Dan Parr, who is the Director of Education with the St. Clair Catholic District School Board says we should be taking advantage of Apprenticeship Prgrams.
More than half of the employers in Chatham Kent say they expect to hire more people in 2016, but they need the right people and that could mean the need for a more educated workforce. Christopher June the new Chair of the Chatham Chamber of Commerce agrees that there needs to be more education to compete in the changing job market.
