Plans are in the works to expand the Ridge Landfill outside Blenheim.
Cathy Smith, project manager with Progressive Waste Solutions Canada says the move will extend the lifespan by at least 20 years.
“We’re not looking to increase the amount of material that we bring in, we;re just looking to expand the life of it,” says Smith. “We can recieve Essex, Lambton and Elgin and Middlesex, but they have their own capacity. We want to serve Chatham-Kent over the long term and the landfill has been part of the community for 50 years.”
An open house will take place on May the 3rd at St Mary’s Hall at 94 George Street in Blenheim from 5-8pm.
