Hospital Boards Splinter

Sydenham-Campus-20131Dissolving the tri-board system is the best, and maybe the only way to move hospital care forward in Chatham-Kent.

That’s according to Jane Havens, Acting Chair of the Public General Hospital Board.

Havens’ says they’ve been working through the process to do just that over the last several weeks.

“We released to them the terms and conditions under which we believe the alliance should be dissolved and we should move on as two,” says Havens. “They would be free to pursue their own vision and goals and objectives, funding formulas, etc.”

Meantime, Sheldon Parsons, the head of the Sydenham board, is questioning why the discussion is moving into the public domain.

Parsons says talks had been ongoing, on a confidential basis.

“This was a confidential process, requested to be confidential by the other two boards,” says Parsons. “We are very surprised, actually disappointed that they now want to go public and we don’t understand the reasons for that.

The required documents for the plan have been handed over to the ministry, and it will be up to higher levels to approve and work out timelines.
