A little rain didn’t dampen the spirits of all the walkers that took part in this year’s ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ event for the Chatham-Kent Women’s Centre.

Instead of outside, the stroll in high heels was moved indoors.

Executive Director Karen Hunter says it’s the organizations signature event.

“It’s our seventh annual event, we’re hoping to raise $50,000,” says Hunter. “In previous years we’ve raised anywhere from $25,000-$32,000. We have over 4000 crisis and support calls come into the agency each year.  We assist 700 women and children annually coming into the shelter.”

The centre fields thousands of calls a year and provides both residential and outreach services.
