Chief Conn

Chatham-Kent’s Chief of Police is speaking out about allegations of impropriety after a woman was asked to remove her bra during questioning.

The woman, who had been charged with drunk driving, claims she was asked to remove her bra while being processed at police headquarters back in March.

The case was dismissed in court last week, with Justice Lucy Glenn saying she’d never heard of such a policy.

Chief Gary Conn is now firing back, saying safety is the the primary concern of the police service, and any clothes that could potentially be used for self-harm or strangulation were removed.

Conn is also refuting the woman’s claims that police were “monsters” and that the entire situation was a nightmare.

The Chief says once the 30-day appeal period has passed, he will gladly share the booking video which he says shows officers treating the woman with the utmost dignity and respect while in custody.

In the meantime, the Chatham-Kent Police Service has begun a review of its policies and procedures and is open to making any necessary changes to be more in line with other services.
