Over 100 kids are in Ridgetown today, learning the importance of being safe on the farm.
Organizer Cassi Boersma says today’s Farm Safety Day covers a wide range of topics from bike riding to chemical and fire safety, followed by a demonstration of PTO – or power take-off machines.
“They have the straw dummies and it shows the kids the rotations,” says Boersma. “They can very easily lose a limb if they get caught in one. So be safe around farm equipment and PTOs.”
Boersma says the event is geared towards young people from both rural and urban backgrounds.
