Project Manager Adam Rosso says they are keeping an eye out for any potential impact from turbine construction on groundwater.

“We’ve built 45 turbines in Chatham in 2007, 2008 and 2009, we haven’t had a single  complaint about water wells. The majority of those turbines had piles,” Rosso says, referring to the pile driving technique used to construct the turbines. “It doesn’t necessarily mean that a case specific location of a turbine with pile foundations or some sort of reinforcement of foundation couldn’t impact an aquifer. That’s not what I’m saying. What I’m saying is in our experience with that specific technology, we’ve never had any issues or complaints brought forward to us.”

The environmental group Water Wells First claims piling technology used in erecting turbines is causing increased sediment in some Dover-area wells.
