Hope Wants Capitol to Remain Part of CK

The sky is the limit when it comes to possibilities for the Capitol Theatre in downtown Chatham.

Speculation on the theatre’s future ramped up last week with reports that Evangel Community Church was one of the groups bidding on acting as an operator of the King Street facility.

Mayor Randy Hope says the goal is to ensure the theatre remain part of Chatham-Kent’s entertainment landscape.

“What we need is people to understand that [events at the Capitol are] entertainment for them. It’s being put on for those in the community and others in the region who will come to see these events [at the Capitol Theatre]. That’s the goal of it- to provide entertainment.”

The municipality resumed management of the theatre after St Clair College stepped away from the facility for financial reasons.
