“Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast” – a quote that certainly holds true for Séan McCann. 
McCann, one of the founding members of Great Big Sea, is returning to Chatham-Kent, this time as a solo act.
The Newfoundland native left Great Big Sea in 2011 to battle an alcohol addiction and says he used music to heal himself.
“I was very much alone, and the first year I was sober I was very vulnerable, I felt isolated, alone, didn’t know what to do, and I really, really wanted to drink ” McCann says. “What I did instead was I reached for my guitar. I poured my heart into that guitar and the songs came out, and they’re the ones that helped me through my darkest days.”
McCann will be performing an intimate show at The Kent 1874 in Chatham on Saturday night.
“There’s nothing that can compete with looking someone else in the eyes, face to face, and giving them a hug or singing a song with them,” he says. “That’s the kind of connectivity that I want to bring. I’d encourage everyone to come out, join the show, and sing with me.”
