With the region’s first human case of West Nile Virus confirmed in the Windsor-area, health officials are urging people to be careful when spending time outdoors.
The Windsor-Essex county Health Unit says most people never develop symptoms or even know they have the virus – only 25% will come down with a fever, and less than 1% develop a severe neuro-invasive disease.
Make sure you’re using a mosquito repellent with DEET, limit the time you spend outdoors at dawn and dusk, avoid dark coloured clothing, and eliminate any standing water on your property.
