Area residents are being encouraged to take back their neighbourhoods.
A community meeting is being held this evening at the Moose Lodge to discuss Wallace Street and the surrounding area.
Marjorie Crew is the Community Safety and Well-being Coordinator, and says they’ll be talking about building and improving the neighbourhood.
“Enhance and grow and build on the assets that they already have in that neighbourhood,” Crew says. “We know that communities that develop positive associations, one of the byproducts is a reduction in crime and an increase in pride.”
Constable Lynette Hodder with the Chatham-Kent Police Community Mobilization team says the area has had some complaints about criminal activity and safety issues in the past.
“We just want those concerned citizens to come out, get to know each other, look at the assets that are in the neighborhood, start becoming more community wellness oriented. A little can go a long way.”
Tonight’s meeting is open to everyone, and gets underway at 6:30.
