Animal Cruelty Charges Laid

Animal cruelty charges have been laid against a Chatham teen. ospca

An investigation was launched in July after the Ontario SPCA received a complaint about a puppy with a broken leg.

Officials say the dog jumped out of a moving vehicle, but the owner admitted that while she took the nine-week-old pup to the vet immediately after the accident, she couldn’t afford any follow-up treatments.

The dog was seized by the organization, had its leg amputated, and was adopted into a new home.

“There is no excuse when it comes to failing to care for your animals,” says Carol Vanderheide, Regional Inspector. “If you are having difficulty providing care for your animals, contact the Ontario SPCA to discuss your options.”

The 19-year-old is charged with causing distress to an animal and failing to provide adequate medical attention.

She will be in court to face the charges today.
