ck fire logoAs we prepare to change our clocks for tonight’s switch back to Standard Time, fire officials say it’s the perfect time to change the batteries in your smoke detector as well.

Public Educator Whitney Burk says while batteries will of course last longer than every six months, it’s best to be safe.

“We want to make sure we change the battery before the chirping sound, because it’s something we don’t think of everyday,” says Burk. “Tampering or removing batteries is against the law, but if you need assistance please contact (the fire department).

Burk says if you are having difficulty changing your smoke detector batteries, or need more information on fire safety, you’re always welcome to give the Fire Service a call.
