For the next two years, new water bottling companies in Ontario will not be permitted to take groundwater.
Existing water bottle companies won’t be able to increase their withdrawal rates or test for future groundwater sources.
This moratorium is being put in place by the Ontario government to ensure that groundwater resources are conserved for future generations.
This will also help to protect against future water insecurity due to population growth, drought, and climate change.
