Local authorities are calling this year’s Shop with a Cop program their biggest yet.
OPP Sergeant Brian Knowler says there were 50 kids taking part in the third annual event.
“Most of them have had some interaction with the justice system or with policing and we want to build some bridges between those kids and law enforcement,” Knowler says. “We start at Walmart and each child gets a $100 gift card to spend on whatever they would like, and the only rule is they have to get something for themselves.”
The program is in partnership with Chatham-Kent Police, OPP, Children’s Services, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Rotary, to name a few.
