The New Year brought some higher gas prices, but they’re expected to decrease a little in the coming weeks.

That’s according to Jason Parent from the Kent Consulting Group out of London.

“Typically gas prices are fairly low in the winter relative to the summer,” says Parent. “So we see prices decease through the winter and they start to increase again in the spring.”

He says the reason for the recent increase is Ontario’s Cap & Trade program which increased the tax on gasoline to offset negative effects on the environment.
