Local Shriners are trying to keep children in Chatham-Kent safe from burns.
A brief ceremony was held at the Civic Centre in Chatham this morning to kick off Burn Awareness Week.
The week is part of a larger, year-long campaign by Shriners International to teach kids and adults to be burn aware, especially at home.
Figures show about 85% of fire-related deaths occur in the home, with a number of other hazards as well, including electrical and scalding from hot liquids, steam, or food.
The burn awareness campaign was started by the Shriners over 20 years ago.
