Tune in daily all this week at 3:40 as we feature WHISKEY RAIN on the XS Local Spotlight!
Whiskey Rain (formerly The Whiskey River Band) is based out of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. Formed in the mid ’90s when new country was on the rise, the band quickly gained popularity for their high energy shows and crowd pleasing antics.
The members come from rock ‘n roll and country backgrounds, this mix is evident in their original material and choice of covers for stage. An entertainment reviewer once wrote about a festival show ” the band hit the stage at 100 miles per hour and didn’t slow down.”
Whiskey River’s first CD, ” Whiskey Business ” was released in 1998. The first two singles, ” If you cry I’ll go ” and ” My baby s gone fishin’ ” were immensely popular. Both got great air play in Ontario and Michigan and garnered the band an appearance on Global TV in Canada.
The bands new CD is due out his fall. Working with a Canadian based writing team recording in Nashville, the new material reflects where the band is now and is sure to please existing fans and turn on many new ones.
Whiskey River has headlined more shows than they can count, but have also enjoyed opening up for some great acts. Keeping their sound “edgy” and in the cross-over vein, has got the band gigs with; George Fox, Terri Clarke, Randy Bachman, Prairie Oyster, Kim Mitchell, Trooper and many others.
Whiskey River has had a great past with regards to working with charities and special events. In 2000, the band played for the “Big Kiss” event, which put Sarnia, Ontario into the Guiness book of records for the most kissing couples.
The band also used their incredibly generous fans to help fill food banks, provide winter coats for kids and helped raise money for many groups, including The Optimists, the Shriners, the Kinsmen and Lion’s Clubs thoughout Ontario.
Whiskey River has also raised money and awareness for cancer research, a disease that has touched all our lives in varying ways.
Whiskey River has joined with “Farmers Feed Cities” to help spread awareness of the plight of modern farmers. We will have group info and merchandise at our barn dance show for this charity. Check back soon for more info as we will be updating this info shortly.
