In addition to caring for 211 residents at the 10-bed end-of-life care facility this past year, Interim Executive Director Denise Dodman says they also reached their fundraising goal.

“The Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation set a goal of $850,000 and thanks to the Chatham-Kent Community, they raised that,” Dodman says. “Some of the funding for hospices in Ontario comes from the Ministry of Health, but that’s only for the actual direct medical care, the rest has to be raised by the community.”

Money raised supports the day-to-day operation of the hospice, including meals, utilities, and other needs of patients and their families.

Dodman is also giving credit to the facility’s 200 volunteers who have given over 13,000 hours of service.

The Hospice has set their fundraising goal at $850,000 this year as well.
