Emergency crews were called to the westbound lanes just before the Highway 40 construction site shortly before 6 last night, battling thick, black smoke to douse the flames.

Traffic was being re-routed off at Kent Bridge Road overnight as crews worked to resurface the highway, but reopened around 8 o’clock.

Meantime the eastbound lanes have reopened following another crash near Tilbury.

Authorities say a tractor trailer lost control, jack-knifed, and hit the guardrail.

Traffic was detoured for several hours as crews removed the vehicle from the highway.
