The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit is speaking out against allegations made by Kevin Jakubec and Water Wells First.
The local activist group recently made statements that the municipality is avoiding the testing of black shale particles, and that this allegedly contravenes legislation.
Municipal representatives say that Chatham-Kent Council publicly offered to pay for well water testing, including the testing of the sediments found in the water.
Several residents have now accepted that offer, but have not expressed interested in sediment testing.
The municipality says it support Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Colby’s science-based position. Dr Colby previously stated that visible sediment is not a risk to human health.
However, officials with the Civic Centre say they will continue to work with residents to help alleviate their concerns.
