The annual Legion Poppy Campaign is back, and veterans will be out in the community this week making sure everyone has a poppy to wear.

Mike Hindmarsh with the Wallaceburg Legion Branch 18 says the campaign’s purpose is to honour all veterans.

“To show the respect and honour for our veterans who have either given up their lives defending our country or are (still with) the armed forces,” Hindmarsh says. “It could have been the second World War, the Korean War, Cold War, peacekeepers in Afghanistan, we honour them all for what they’ve done for our country.”

And of course money raised through the campaign goes to a very worthy cause.

“All the funds raised go to veteran’s programs and community programs with authorization,” Hindmarsh explains. “None of it goes to maintaining the property or in anybody’s pocket, 100% goes back to supporting the veterans and their families.”

Hindmarsh says poppies can be found at countless stores in Wallaceburg and across Chatham-Kent.
