The 43rd Annual Salvation Army Lunch brought in more than nine grand in Wallaceburg this week.
The fundraiser has been run by the Childs family for three generations.
“Our tally was $9165.93,” organizer Mark Childs says, “up $2500 from last year which was strange because the numbers (of attendees) was down.”
To date, the event has now brought in $312,252.38, with all of the money raised goes to the Salvation Army to cover the costs of the Christmas baskets.
“I don’t think people realize that the needs have gone up significantly,” Childs says. “And it’s not just at Christmas time, you need to keep doing this year-round”
