Municipality paying portion of MTO’s 2010 Wallaceburg traffic study

Travel patterns of trucks through Wallaceburg, according to an IBI Group study for the Ministry of Transportation

The potential for a Wallaceburg truck bypass will be back in the municipal spotlight tonight.

Back in 2010, council asked the Ministry of Transportation to look into creating a hazardous truck route around Wallaceburg to relieve congestion on Murray and Margaret Avenue.

However, Councillor Carmen McGregor says now it doesn’t seem to be necessary.

“I think when it was originally initiated was back before the down turn of the economy when our factories had more employees, and there was a lot more traffic passing through. From what I read in the study, it looks like the current numbers aren’t the same as the ones they found in the study years ago. I think the motion coming through is just to pay our portion of the Ministry’s study”, says McGregor.

The municipal share of the study comes to just over $110,000.
