With a local initiative attempting to set up an Uber service in Chatham-Kent, the municipality is looking at how it can accommodate.
This may mean making some changes to the Taxi By Law, and Mayor Randy Hope says these discussions are already taking place.
“A report will come back to council, identifying how we deal with the whole transit issue if the recommendation is that we open it up for private transportation systems to be available in Chatham-Kent,” Hope says. “I think it’s going to be a great discussion as to how do we implement a strategy that doesn’t damage others, but adds another flavour of transpiration logistics in Chatham-Kent.”
A public consultation will happen in March to gather input from area residents.
In the meantime, the people behind the push to get Uber in Chatham-Kent are holding a ‘meet and greet’ tonight.
The event runs from 7-9 at the Bradley Convention Centre.
