Officials say a dryer caught fire in a multi-unit building just north of McNaughton Avenue West shortly after 12:30am.

Smoke alarms alerted the residents, who were able to escape safely.

The blaze was quickly doused by fire fighters, who kept the flames contained to the laundry room, although there was heavy smoke damage through the home.

Damage is pegged at $80,000.
