Impaired driving charges have been laid after a hit-and-run in Chatham.

Around 8:30 last night, police responded to a two-vehicle crash at Communication Road and Grand Avenue East – authorities say a dodge ram pick-up was heading east on Grand when the driver ran a red light and hit a northbound Jetta on Highway 40.

Police say the truck driver then backed up, drove around the car, and fled the scene.

A witness called police to say the suspect was seen on Longwoods Road driving into a ditch and taking off on foot.

K9 Arry was called in, and tracked the accused to a nearby home.

The 45-year-old was arrested and has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, impaired driving, and driving while suspended.
