Chatham-Kent Police have released the name of the victim of last week’s homicide in Wallaceburg.

Inspector Trevor Crane says, “The deceased has been identified as Nicholas Laprise. However, the cause of death will not be released to protect the integrity of the investigation,” says Crane.

“Officers spent the weekend examining the scene and collecting evidence. We have charged 25-year-old Kourtny Audette of Wallaceburg with first degree murder.  She remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on May 2nd,” says Crane.

Crane says this wasn’t a random act of violence.

“I would like to reassure the community that we have no public safety concerns at this time, as this was an isolated and contained incident. This was not a random act of violence as the man and woman were known to one another,” Crane explains.

He says they will continue to investigate and release information as it becomes available.
