Construction Starting on Chatham Casino

A ground-breaking ceremony was held in Chatham on July 5th to start construction on Chatham’s new casino.

Construction is set to begin on the new Chatham casino.

Officials from Gateway Casinos joined municipal staff and representatives from the OLG at the corner of Richmond Street and Keil in Chatham this morning for a ground-breaking ceremony.

Gateway Casinos CEO Tony Santo says the restaurants at the new facility will be family-friendly.

“All of our restaurants, whenever we can, especially with a new build, we design them in such a way so families an come in without going into the casino,” says Santo. “There’s one entrance into the casino that’s posted with security officers to check for minors, and then on the other side is where the food and beverage facilities are. And so we design them in that way so families can come in with, eat, drink, and have a good time. We don’t really care if people gamble or not.”

The new 45,000 square foot Cascades Casino will feature 320 slots, 12 gaming tables, a patio, and two restaurants.

Mayor Randy Hope says the casino will likely attract visitors from all over the region.

“We will actually be enticing people from the other areas to come in – from London, from Windsor – because it’s something new,” Hope says.

Gateway officials were also in Point Edward yesterday for the grand opening of the Match Eatery and Public House at the Starlight Casino.
