New Casino Expected to Benefit all of CK

Chatham-Kent’s Economic Development department is confident the new Chatham casino will benefit all residents.

Acting Director Stuart McFadden says the $36-million dollar investment will bring 200 new jobs, and spin-offs within the local tourism industry.

He says this won’t be at the expense of Dresden, whose casino is set to close.

“We’re not turning our back on Dresden, (the slots) have been there for 19 years,” McFadden says, “We’ll see what happens when the casino closes down, Gateway has made a commitment to continue to help and support the racing industry out there, and again we’ll see what they need at the time.”

Officials with Gateway also reiterated that current employees at the Slots will be moving to the new Chatham site.

Gateway and municipal officials held a ground-breaking ceremony at the Chatham site yesterday morning.
