Cherry Fest Kicks Off Today

Blenheim will be decked out in red for the next few days as the annual Cherry Fest comes to town.

South Kent Councillor Trevor Thompson tries his hand at the Cherry Pit Spit contest.

Everything kicks off later this afternoon with live dance and martial arts performances, rides, and sidewalk sales throughout the downtown core.

The three-day event continues tomorrow and Saturday, including the traditional pit spitting contest.

Organizers are also hoping to set a Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous pit spit with at least 250 people. Registration is at 11:30 on Saturday with the mass spit taking place at noon.

Thursday
3-7pm Live dance, gymnastics and martial entertainment
7:30-10:30 Cherry-oke FREE to sing or watch!

Friday
10am-Noon – Postma Fitness FREE kids obstacle course
2-5pm pit spit tryouts and our eating contest sign up (next to the police station)
6pm Pie eating contest (must preregister)
7:30-11pm live local bands

Saturday
10-11am – Life By Design Center CrossFit Demonstrations
11am – Kids pit spit contest (must be preregistered and there for 11am sharp)
Noon – Guinness World Record attempt for most people simultaneously spitting cherry pits. FREE – Just come at 11:30 and sign the list.
12:30 -Celebrity Pit Spit
1pm – Canadian National Pit Spit contest

There will also be face painting and free finger print clinics from block parent as well as paramedic demonstrations.
