Police will be keeping close tabs on boaters this long weekend in Chatham-Kent.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service is participating in Operation Dry Water this long weekend. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the dangers of boating while impaired.
Officers say that impaired boating accounts for about 40% of boating-related fatalities on Canadian waterways.
With sun, wind, waves, and rocking motions of the boat, they say that the effects of drugs and alcohol can be greatly increased.
They’re reminding boaters that anyone found to be impaired while boating is subject to charges under the Criminal Code of Canada.
