Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services were busy over the long weekend fighting fires in Wallaceburg and Moraviantown.

Early Sunday morning, crews were called to an abandoned house on River Line in Moraviantown, where they found the house fully engulfed in flames, with fire spreading to nearby cornfields and woodlots.

The cause of cost of damages is unknown, and no injuries were reported.

Yesterday, stations 2 and 3 were called to a fire on King Street in Wallaceburg.

Damages are estimated at around $150 thousand dollars after a kitchen fire in an apartment building. Crews quickly doused the flames before it spread to the basement apartment. All tenants escaped without injury.

Officials are reminding residents to clear vegetation within 3 feet of fire hydrants and to have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
