Several community groups and businesses have come together to teach kids about ATV safety.
Chatham-Kent OPP and the Children’s Safety Village teamed up to develop an ATV simulator, which Safety Village Executive Director Barb Lovell says was created locally.
“To be able to put a Chatham-Kent stamp on it, saying it’s all manufactured locally, shows not just the support of the community, but the need for safety information in our community.”
OPP Constable Jay Denorer says it’s an especially important tool to have in Chatham-Kent.
“Chatham-Kent is one of the municipalities that has an ATV bylaw where you can actually drive ATVs on the road,” Denorer explains. “So what we want to teach families and children is the proper way to ride the ATVs on the road, have the proper licensing.”
The simulator, created by Dresden’s MPT Technologies and Applied Industrial Technologies of Chatham with an ATV from Bob’s Motorsports, will be taken all over the province to give kids an awareness and understanding of the hazards of driving an ATV.
