With less than two weeks to go, preparations for the upcoming International Plowing Match are kicking into high gear.
Co-Chair Leon Leclair says they’ve had a very productive week so far setting up the event’s Tented City, including getting water lines tested and setting up fencing.
“There’s still landscaping to be done, a few trees and some decorative stuff around some tents,” Leclair says. “There’s a great team working out there and we couldn’t be prouder of what’s going on.”
Leclair says volunteers are also working hard on their committees to ensure all of the event’s activities are a success.
Meantime, Leo Brown is the Tented City coordinator. He says they are ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at them.
“We’re set up with matting and wood chips in the event that it gets quite soupy, we’re going to take care of the main avenues and we have equipment available to mitigate whatever they can.”
Last year’s IPM in Huron County was plagued by rain with wet, muddy conditions forcing organizers to shut down the Tented City for one day.
The Chatham-Kent IPM and Rural Expo runs September 18-22 in Pain Court.
